Barbara has been practicing Ashtanga Yoga for 13 years and teaching for 10. She began a dedicated study of Ashtanga by seeking out workshops and classes with the world's foremost Ashtanga teachers: David Swenson, David Williams, Manju Jois, Sharath Jois, Nancy Gilgoff, Lino Miele.
She completed David Swenson's Ashtanga Primary Series Intensive Teacher Training in 2005 and in 2006, she met David Williams, the first Westerner to learn the entire Ashtanga Yoga Syllabus from Pattabhi Jois (Guruji). Meeting David changed her practice and her life. David became her primary teacher, mentor, and friend. Together they produced the Complete Ashtanga Yoga Syllabus in poster form and Barbara distributes the poster worldwide.
In 2010, she received her 200-hour yoga teacher certification in Vinyasa Flow from April Woody's Om Seva School of Yoga. In 2012, she attended The Primary Series Teacher Training with Manju Jois' (son of Pattabhi Jois, Ashtanga Yoga founder) and in 2014 attended his Mysore classes at the House of Yoga & Zen in Maui, Hawaii.
This year, Barbara will make her annual trek to Maui to study with her teachers, David Williams and Nancy Gilgoff. David and Nancy were instrumental in bringing this form of yoga to the Western World when they brought Pattabhi Jois and his son, Manju, to the United States in the mid 70s.
Barbara teaches as she has been taught by her primary Ashtanga teachers, David and Nancy, in a safe, fun, nurturing environment.
